Escambia County School District, Florida

All Schools to Dismiss an Hour Early, With All

After School Activities Canceled Wednesday, October 28, 2020

DUE TO HURRICANE ZETA

Superintendent Malcolm Thomas has announced that Emergency Operations Center (EOC) updates indicate wind and rain may impact our area in the early evening hours, Wednesday, October 28, 2020.

The district works closely with the local Emergency Operations Center and the National Weather Service.  At this time our local EOC has advised Escambia County may experience tropical storm winds as early as 6:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, creating unsafe conditions for travel.  Based on this advisory, every student at each educational level, (elementary, middle and high school) will be released an hour earlier than their typical dismissal on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, to insure completion of all bus routes prior to the arrival of inclement weather.

Superintendent Thomas states “All Escambia County (FL) schools will dismiss an hour early, and after school activities have been canceled for Wednesday, October 28, 2020. The district will continue to monitor Hurricane Zeta, working along with the EOC, as the safety and welfare of our students and staff is paramount.”

Updates and announcements regarding attendance on Thursday, October 29, 2020 will be provided on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, and communicated via local media, through School Messenger calls, as well as on the school district website.
